The Quake and Shake House

Hi All
Just wanted to go over some of the ideas behind the Shake and Quake house.
The Main idea is a house or cabin looking structure with a small porch in front. People would climb up onto it and go inside to look at the neat things inside and fiddle with it. Then when enough folks showed up, and grabbed the handels extending from the sides at hip level, they could shake and rattle the house and simulate a earthquake. And things would shake and rattle and make noise and things like that. Or people could lay on the floor and just watch things wiggle about.
Mainly the idea behind the house is fun. Fun to play in for people on the playa. Fun to watch at night. Fun to build because it will be easier in design to build and construct than what we have done in the past few years. And fun because so many people can be building parts of the house and decorating it at any time.
When building this project I see the need for quite a bit of original art that can be made by anyone and added to the house. This ART will be simple things that make noise and rattle around or fall over or just shake around and look funny. And this art will be covering the entire inside of the house and also things hanging from the ceiling and whatever other cool ideas we come up with.
Now for the outside I see a porch in front with a swing on it. I see a cabin look for the exterior finish with a few windows front and back and a door opening. Kind of a plain house in the day time.
AND at night I see a whole nother thing. This current design leaves both "sides" blank with material that looks like siding, and flat plains on the roof that look like shingles. But really its an opportunity for some wild lighting set-ups. Big canvases for lighting effects or maybe something like the cube-a-tron effects. (hope I got the right name for it) Lighting is not my specialty but I have seen some cool things and I am sure you all have as well.
If we want to make it look like a cottage or old beach bunalow or a cabin on the mountain I don't see much of a difference. And sure lots of places have earth quakes but so do we here, so it says San Diego to me. I see that as plenty of a connection to here. I like the Nate Harrison connection but not sure how you could convey that on the playa in a meaningful way other than a write up pasted to the wall. It's cool I love history.
I would also love to see the organ pipes idea that P & A thought up built into this so that when people moved the structure it made sound through the organ. Or actuators on the inside that do this as well.
And as for danger sure there's some. People could get hurt, but I think that the design we do will make it obvious their is danger present and people climbing on it will be more than careful. Like climbing on a bull ride, you know ahead of time you will get thrown. SO hold on will ya!!
Anyway some thoughts. JP
PS please come to the next meeting and have input on the ideas presented!!
pss if someone could put this under the right heading or subject I would appreciate it.
