To build a CORE project, we need a team of people to lead various aspects of the project:
Capitan:
First, we need someone to lead us all. This person would make larger decisions, recruit a team of co- leaders and develop and control communications to the broader community. They’re accountable for developing a schedule and processes and providing oversight to all the co-leads to ensure that they stay on top of their goals and that their progress is congruent with the intended direction of the project. They also control the project budget and do so many other things. The lead will also support all roles as necessary, becoming a co-lead so they can take time off. Jessica is currently in this position and is willing to share it or pass it over.
Project Budgeting Team: The FT will pursue bids for any high cost materials and equipment. They will do purchasing and investigate / maintain liability insurance. This team also will track receipts and do tedious work.
Bread winners:
Next, we need someone to make money. This person would recruit others to host fundraising events and develop a fundraising plan. They would coordinate fundraising volunteers and provide oversight to the events to be sure that every event is ready to happen and has all bases covered.
To support that person, we need people who want to coordinate specific fundraising activities. These could range from parties to bazaars, to good sales to whatever you want. There are plenty of neat, new ideas, or you could come up with your own idea. Ideally, these people would set up events through the year so that they were supporting each other and not competing. The fundraising lead would coordinate this.
These are some ideas that we have for events that we need people to coordinate:
A Big Party / Club Thing with DJ’s and Such, An Art Show, a Fashion Show where the clothes are Auctioned, A Nice Dinner, Kickstarter, The Burner Bazaar, A Last Second Open Market for Playa Gear, Bake Sales / Cigarette Girls at other event, an adult scavenger hunt party in the Gaslamp.
I would like to throw a CORE Launch Party, where we teach the basic information about the project, bring in materials to our build site, do some fundraising, bring in volunteers and have a ball together. In my mind, the launch party might be combined with a Warehouse ribbon cutting. We would work hard during the day, then grill kabobs and drink beer / soda while a presentation is given on how we will do fundraising and how we will build the project and share the big plan. T-Shirts and other swag could be sold. After that, we would go home, clean up, take a nap, then have a house party where we do fundraising. I need someone to help me start making that party / day a reality, and fast. There are a lot of logistics that need to be covered between many other leads on the project.
People who actually work on the project:
Arts and Engineering (A&E) Lead: To make sure the design is safe and pretty and such, we need someone to organize and plan meetings for a team of artists and engineers. If the right skills are not present, they need to recruit people. In these meetings they will overcome any unsafe engineering constraints and they will make something that is outright pretty. After the design is finalized, this person will work intimately with the build lead to be sure that the design is going as planned and that all of the desired features are being built correctly. This individual also plans the design so that it is efficiently transportable and leaves no trace once burnt. The A&E Lead or VC is accountable for coordinating LNT.
Build Lead: This person coordinates with the lead and the A&E Lead to develop a plan of how to construct the project and develops a schedule to be sure that the project is done on time. They, with the A&E and Specialists team, find a build site. They manage the budget. This person goes to every build day and directs workers of what to do. (There should be a few build leads, so they can have a life and work together so that nobody has to work every weekend.) After the build is complete, they select a team of people to build the project on the Playa. They communicate a plan for how the project will be assembled.
Tool Coordinators: I need a few people who will also ensure that one of them will be at every build. They help us acquire the right tools, and keep an eye on valuable pieces, making sure that all tools stay on site and that they're put away safely and neatly, and as they're distributed, people get good tools that are ready to be used. They manage things like daisy chains and plug strips. They also do things like replace blades in jig saws and keep us in supply of perishables like wood glue.
A&E + Specialists Team: These people develop specific components of the build, like lighting and engineering. They will start meeting soon to develop a final plan for the project. These people will also focus on how to make special features of the project work and how to ignite and burn the project.
Volunteer Coordinator: The VC manages all the ‘human’ needs for the project. This person frequently recruits for all sorts of people for the project, to the extent of creating surveys and communications to bring volunteers in, and setting up volunteer drives at various events. They regularly review volunteer information to put people on the right teams, they tie those connections. This person develops sub leads to wrangle children, track gifts and early entry passes, coordinate a camp for the on-playa build team, set up training sessions and organize carpools. They coordinate meals at work days and ensure that basic needs, like water, popsicles and medical supplies are available at the work site. The A&E or VC is responsible for planning LNT.
Communications: Nicole Hickman and Windy are supporting comms, and doing a great job. There is a website that is being revamped as well.
Documentarian: A person who builds a library of pictures and comes to events to take pictures, makes doodles and comics. It’s a means of sharing how much fun we’re having and laughing at it at the same time. Taylor is excited about making comics via bit strips, and having a few people who are geared towards doing this is great.
